Paladins of War

Archived thread started by Johannes:

I noticed yesterday in the setting bible that paladins of war don't have a proper ruled order and everything is fairly loose in terms of organisation. how did Marius and Arrhenius then get their training? It kinda would a little bit screw over the background I had, because I always thought of it as some sort of knightly order with a proper headquarters and all. If that poses some sort of problem would it be better to choose from one of the other three orders?

Although it's true that the paladins of war are the least formal of the orders, and although they don't have many chapter houses (and even fewer permanent ones), they do have some few permanent structures. Likewise, although there is no formal head of the order, there are a (very few) elder experienced paladins, who handle training of new recruits, and such like.

It's likely, therefore, that your character was trained at either the chapter house in Tollis or in Normark, by one such elder paladin. Basically, there's nothing in your background that would preclude anything of the sort. (Given Roger's intention of aiming for Cavalier, it's also likely that his character was more drawn to the more ostentatious forms of chivalry, rather than fighting the good fight. Indeed, it's quite possible that he felt more drawn towards becoming a paladin of glory, and only entered the service of Barachiel out of loyalty to you, further explaining his not being called. Or perhaps he's since headed in the direction of Cavalier having not been called - deciding to live the knightly ideal since he can't be a paladin. Or something.)

Of course, if you decide to change order, that's your choice. However, there's nothing in your background that would require it.

That basically answered my question. I just wasn't too sure, what exactly you meant by the wording in the setting bible (when I reached that point, I was again considering becoming a Paladin of Justice, but let's face it my english may be good, but not when it comes to legal terms. Medieval Judge Dredd is not a role I know how to play *g*)
